Practice Self-Care

Practice Self-care

One of the ways of taking good care of yourself is adopting and practicing good and flexible self-care. Self-care means taking the time to do something that relaxes and replenishes you. Self-care can be any activity of your choice that promotes psychological, mental, physical, or spiritual wellbeing. It can help regulates your mind to avoid burnout and irritation. It may also take some time and may look like a total waste of time at the onset. If you practice self-care intentionally, you will discover that although it consumes your valuable time, it is worth exploring different practices to find what works best for you.

Some Easy Ways To Practice Self-Care

  1. Start your day by appreciating yourself for who you are and what you have accomplished so far.
  2. Begin a daily journal about the things you are grateful for.
  3. Create a fun music playlist.
  4. Take your medication on time (if you are on medication).
  5. Try a new fitness routine (working out)
  6. Learn meditation, mindfulness techniques, or breathing exercises (Many devices can help with this, like a watch, phone, and many more).
  7. Schedule weekly sessions with a therapist (Let professionals help you, and there are free resources for this option).
  8. Take yourself out sometimes and treat yourself well (you deserve it).
  9. Lunch with someone or your teammate.
  10. Create a DIY self-care kit of things that make you feel better.
  11. Do something that you love and are passionate about.
  12. Look for things that enrich your body, soul, and spirit.
  13. Take a walk at the park, by the lake, the track or maybe around your house.
  14. Eat healthy, balanced meals (don’t be afraid of trying new food but be mindful of your allergies).
  15. Join a support group or teams (never take a walk alone).
  16. Try or learn new things, games, music, food, workout, dance, etc.
  17. Have more than one friend that you can laugh and cry with.

I am encouraging you today to practice self-care. Many excuses may keep us from caring for ourselves; we must be disciplined enough to look out for ourselves. Don’t get to the point of burning out before you learn to take care of yourself. While these ideas are not expensive, self-care is critical to our health, and you will be so glad that you did.
